It's an ingredient that can be used in Chinese recipes that feature Five-spice powder, such as a rub for ribs (a menu item at PFChangs).
I use five spice powder in a cranberry chutney recipe along with white raspberry balsamic vinegar, which is an easy mode condiment for a roast pork, ham, or beef tenderloin.

It can go into spiced cookies and cakes, along with cardamom. Mulled wines, again just one of many ingredients. It's one of the flavors in a batch of pho beef soup stock.

I have also seen star anise as just one of the spices in certain Indian curries. But, really anon this is a hugely flavored spice for which it is pennies a portion, ie not really worth worrying about.
