My list of cocktails that I'd expect a bartender to know would be:

>Manhattan (regular and perfect)
>negroni
>gin and tonic
>mojito
>mai tai
>margarita
>sidecar
>martini (gin and vodka)
>cosmopolitan
Those should be your basics, I'd think. Besides those, know mules, bloody Marys, and espresso martinis (they're popular, right now). Also, knowing a few mixed shots might he nice, depending on what the clientele is like.
