I wonder if the EU will ever have the balls to do what Russia and china did and just ban Facebook, YouTube, x, Microsoft, Google, Whatsapp, android, apple, etc... and make people replace them with their own versions. Most of those websites are old and very easy to copy, make a computer system would take longer but I am sure they could just do an user friendly version of Linux and push that one since you would already have most programs available for it.

By Trump metrics blocking tech companies would cause 0% effect on the balance of trade because those don't count as import or export but it would really show what the US can be hurt by. It's tech businesses and military industrial complex. EU could easily stop buying any American weapons. Which would effectively end up costing the US far more than on the surface as US planes are only economically sustainable if bought in large numbers. (The same reason why Russia can't mass produce modern planes besides a few showpieces till some foreign country orders them as it would cost too much to make few units).

I think Trump doesn't get why his predecessors fought for 40 years to keep the EU under the US sphere of influence.

Tarrifs on china is one thing. Faking some hard tarrifs on Mexico to get concession is another. Putting actual high tariffs on the whole planet is nuts it will isolate the US and the next time the US will have to arrange a coalition of the willing because Iran or north Korea sunk some US ships or arranged some terrorism nobody will help.
