Based. Being spread around is absolutely the best position to be in. My boss officially told me to come in months ago, but never brought it up again (I went in twice and then never again). I think he doesn't know who to even ask or what the repercussions would be for firing me

No it happens and I'm sure OP is embellishing a little bit, you still need some base competency and momentum. Basically when everyone else is a retard that needs help with basic git commands you can sit around and unblock them and be seen as a god while doing so.
