Interesting, never heard of this old wives tale, I was motivated enough to research this for your lazy ass and found a medical journal article published in Photochem Photobiol waaaaay back in 07. It was chock full of "may" language and there's not much else out there. There were about five other papers in the 00s and 10s, chock full of "maybe" hedging language, which really isn't that much.
Probably, for your typical indoor 4chan basement dweller there's minimal risk, if you worked outside or had an addiction to suntanning I'd start to worry. I would wear eyeglasses when outdoors, and at least occasionally visit an eye doctor, etc.
Despite what you may have been told by advertising from megacorporations, ALL things you consume have a risk:reward ratio , nothing has zero side effects (except the holy elixir of the covid vax) and if the stuff improves your mental health for 75 years and then you get cataracts and need an operation, "probably" you're net better off doing it. People do stupider things, WRT health, to feel better. If you're in the fraction of people who don't respond positively to it, you're just spending money on something that makes you sick, just like drinkers, smokers, and carb addicts, so stop it.
The only other thing I could find in a med journal search was a single individual (as in one human being, one time) where it interfered with glaucoma meds. So if you're on glaucoma meds there is at least one documented case of it F-ing with the meds. I don't think its intelligent to make personal medical decisions based on a single case study, but its worth keeping in mind if you're on glaucoma meds and they don't seem to be working...
If you think about it, it can't be a strong side effect because otherwise for centuries it would be "known as a poison that makes people blind" and it's not.
I wouldn't go around taking heroic megadoses like a moron, of course. If 1 dose doesn't work I wouldn't go taking 100x that dose.
