It's literally the best advice. It's two words to encode a massive pile of other good advice:
1. You have no alternative but live as yourself. You can't magically turn into someone else, you're stuck being you.
2. When you're not acting as you naturally would, you'll always eventually get caught out and come off as inauthentic. Your heart won't be in it, you'll overthink things that would come naturally, you'll get frustrated, and you'll self-sabotage - "it won't be you".
3. You can non-magically change as a person, but it ONLY works if the results become a fundamental part of yourself.
4. This kind of change is usually really fucking slow and hard, even people who want to do it struggle, and it can take a long time - you're literally trying to change "who you are"
5. If you have a good thing going, generally, why bother? Unironically just be yourself.
6. If you need results in a hurry, you typically have two choices: change your context (so you're you, getting new results somewhere new and different), or revisit aspects of yourself which you haven't surfaced in a while and embrace them again (so you're still just you)
Most people who complain about "be yourself" feel like change is impossible, but it's obvious people change a massive amount over the course of their life, and it's not just age.
Those changes seems to typically come from one of four places
>changing what you want, how you feel, and how certain things make you feel(mentality),
>changing your exhibited external response to your emotions and changing the kinds of things you naturally choose to do (behavior),
>changing your routine, your appearance, or how you sleep, eat, exercise, and relax (body, fitness, and wellness)
>changes to where you are, and the people and influences you let mold you in your life (environment)
If the "you" which you currently are sucks such that "being yourself" isn't working, you have levers to change that. Use them.
