It enrages the therapeutic-industrial complex to hear this sentiment spoken aloud, but when you are demeaned by those around you in your social environment it's impossible to "live your life" satisfactorily.

This thought would have been completely alien in literally every culture worldwide prior to around 1870. In many places it would have been seen as nearly insane. In most cultures, people KILLED EACH OTHER over personal insults or petty social offenses. A deranged ideology built on just-so statements about "psychological health" has swept over our culture, telling us that those people were simply all crazy - but that ideology's utter lack of success in actually producing healthy individuals or a healthy culture has made me doubt the validity of that accusation.

The idea that I should "just accept" being mocked and derided and scorned by one entire half of the human race, and should just go on with my life and plant flowers or take up whittling or some such nonsense is ludicrous to me.
