Even when you manage to deplete your initial patch, you will still have more than enough time to find a new one because the ore stored in your train station's chests plus the fuel cells you bunkered alone will last you an eternity.
My first uranium patch in my current game was tiny as fuck, and once it ran out I thought to myself "well, gotta remember to build a new outpost" but I completely forgot about that and went to Aquillo. Once I came back I realized I still don't have a new uranium patch but everything was still up and running and I still had more than enough fuel. And I'm using it to run a 8 reactor setup on Nauvis and 2 reactors on most of my ships. So don't worry about your uranium patches running dry, as long as you don't fuck up something real badly that's a non-issue.
