Honestly, I don't recall how it worked on a technical level, but I was basically used as a bridge to get them onto the correct server layer where everyone else was waiting for them. It was a bizarre, non-RP interaction, but I felt a bandit coming across a lady and her retainer out in the wilderness. After everyone was done hurrahing over their guild leader joining the battle, I got my ass kicked by the Alliance.

Also, I wish I remembered the guy's name, but there was one guy when I last played during WotLK phase 1 who was trying to keep RP alive within his guild. I remember seeing him RP walk around the upper level of Thunder Bluff /yelling for people to join his guild while "on patrol". Probably not the best place to recruit, but his guild was apparently pretty big. I think his name might have just been Orkman or Golkosh.
