Of course the idea that "atoms" of some sort exists is 2500 years old but only qualitative.

The question is not clear. There were 200 years from analysis like Netwon to analysis like Weierstrass. Since Weierstrass 200 years ago were's still using the same fucking symbols to do calculus even.
Math was a lot more by hand calculation obviously, but I'd not overestimate "us" today.
