Discipline assumes free will. Science assumes determinism. Living on willpower is exhausting and causes depression. That's why people doing the ''right'' things and appear to be ''succesful'' kill themselves ''unexpectedly''. For example: the solution for an alcoholic is not to replace drinking with healthy habits, but to find out what causes the need to drink. Popular psychology has a huge blind spot because it only superficially adresses ways of thinking, feeling and behaviour. That's why I hate Americans with their toxic pull yourself by the bootstraps mentality. They don't have a clue about depression. American ''depression'' is a hyperinflated word like calling people with different opinions ''nazi's''.
