i linked a book that advocates for carrying guns in bear country in my first post. and you've also changed your argument from "handguns" to "guns" in this time as well.
no, to make it clear so you don't strawman me, a handgun is an effective tool but not a be all end all for bear attacks. bear spray and horns (or some whistles which achieve the same db as airhorn cans) are also effective and don't harm the bear. the bear's life is more valuable than yours and you also don't belong in its territory to begin with. can't help it if you come across a starving, diseased & near death, or otherwise unreasonably hostile one that's what the gun's for. there's also a lot of shit you can do to avoid ever having a bear come across your camp or take interest in you as a prey item to begin with. you ever seen that semi viral video of all the boomers freaked out thinking a bear's about to attack it and the ranger just walks up and shoos it off using his fingers as a whistle? yup.
