I did a few years of BSA in 2010 or so, I can tell you my experience
>large troop in a medium sized city
>kids consisted of literal band kids and a few non-band nerds, and the scout master's high school jock kids who were nice
>meetings were basically "listen to some grown-ups talk about things that won't happen for months" while you discreetly fuck off and daydream
>those things they talk about are hundreds of dollars, but are worth every bit
>they make you sell overpriced popcorn
>rarely would a meeting actually consist of doing anything

This was back when you still had to show up with your 50 cents every week worth of dues. Before I left they were transitioning to a yearly due setup, probably so the BSA doesnt have 1,000,000 quarters every week to deal with
