The shock therapy done to the east has been one of the worst humanitarian disasters done in the world, so many wars have been fought and so many people have died because of the dire life that the collapse brought to most countries. That said, I'm from Czech which had always been an industrial center, we didn't have it as bad as so many under-developed countries because so much of the industry and infrastructure the communists gave us helped us overcome the shock and, eventually, make Czech a much better country than a lot of western ones (in my opinion). I also come from a region that didn't have as many very poor people because the farmlands were always very "middle class" and the people were always able to feed themselves, changing from Communism to free market literally never meant anything to us because we were already self-reliant and even today so many things are socialist like free education, good healthcare, etc.
>Do you have nostalgia for such times?
I was extremely young back then but I can't say that too much has changed because, thankfully, Europe has a great mixed economy model and many socialist values are still very strongly part of life.
>How do you feel about your current government in relation to the one you lived in 3+ decades past?
Neoliberalism is a curse, a den of vultures, but it will soon get better thanks to the fact that so many people at a young age are pretty left-leaning. We can only expect better in the future.
