Because it is too difficult to conceptualize how a society might evolve with magic into a modern day civilization.

I mean, just with D&D, using the prestidigitation spell, one of the very first spells you ever learn, there is no longer a need for restrooms, toilet paper, paper towels, or any sort of cleaning supplies like soap, shampoo, diswashers, laundry cleaners, etc.
These things are considered to be a fundamental part of our lives that we take for granted but are based on deep-seated industries that employ hundreds of thousands of people around the world, going back hundreds of years.
If those industries didn't exist, how would that society change between "medieval europe" and "modern europe"?

Like, when you think about rich people's estates in europe, one of the reasons was that they were so fucking huge was to provide living space for their battalions of maids and servants. but with the introduction of a single, easy to learn, easy to use spell that you can cast infinitely, you don't really need to employ so many servants. You can clean your clothes, wipe your ass, and wash your own dishes with a flick of the wrist.

I can't imagine what a "modern day" society would be like when the possibility exists that an ordinary citizen can carry around an itty-bitty wand that behaves like a bazooka with fifty launches.
